John Hamon Miller Handmade Marble
John Hamon-Miller is a third-generation glassblower, and a member of the Hamon Glass family of Scott Depot West Virginia. Specializing in blown and torch glass working, John is known for quality artistic glass.
O.B. Hamon, John’s maternal grandfather, established Hamon Glass in 1929. During the early years, Mr. Hamon and his four sons focused their attention on functional glass. Well known for their Crackleware, they survived the depression by working with other glass factories in the area. Early in the 1960’s, John’s uncle, Robert L. Hamon brought the family into the art glass world. Robert became world renown for his artistic designs and impeccable craftsmanship. John spent much of his youth and young adulthood growing up in his grandfather’s factory learning his craft at the knee of his Uncle Bob.
In 1994, at the urging of family members, John officially joined the art glass world by opening his own studio. Keeping with family tradition, John used the family formula for crystal, creating some of the clearest, most brilliant crystal manufactured in the United States. Specializing in paperweights, marbles and blown glass, his use of colors and movement makes his pieces highly sought after and highly collectable.
John has become world renown for his marble creations both in offhand work (cane cut) and torch work. He has been featured in several books on contemporary marbles, his work can be found in museums and his marbles are collected by thousands of marble collectors around the world.
In 2009 John, due to health concerns, John semi-retired from glass work and closed his studio. In 2023 John began creating marbles again and has been enjoying attending marble shows and selling his newest creations. Approx. Size Just Under 1″ Marble. In Mint Asmade Condition.
